La. National Guard responds as Winter Storm Leon hits

O

NEW ORLEANS – Governor Bobby Jindal declared a state of emergency, Jan. 27, and authorized the mobilization of 450 Louisiana National Guardsmen to state active duty to respond to Winter Storm Leon.

The LANG mobilized personnel and equipment to assist the DOTD with road de-icing and road grading operations in Hammond, La., and Lafayette, La., areas, as well as maintenance and logistics support equipment. National Guard liaisons are ready to mobilize to parish emergency operations centers as required.

The LANG is in direct coordination with the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP), as well as other state and local agencies, to anticipate any possible emergency requirements and support that the storm may generate.

Louisiana National Guardsmen are trained, ready and equipped to stand up at any moment to protect lives and property, maintain communications and ensure the continuity of operations and government.
