School board superintendent takes command of Guard unit

BATON ROUGE – Army Col. Alonzo “Lonnie” Luce of Gonzales, La., took command of the Louisiana National Guard’s 199th Leadership Regiment during a change of command ceremony at Camp Cook in Ball, La., May 5.

Luce, who serves as the St. James Parish School Board superintendent, received the battalion flag from Brig. Gen Glenn H. Curtis, the adjutant general of the LANG, while friends and family looked on.

Luce was most recently promoted to the rank of colonel, July 14.

The 199th LR, headquartered in Camp Minden, provides institutional training within assigned Career Management Fields, the Non-Commissioned Officer Education System and Officer Candidate School missions based on requirements identified by the National Guard Bureau and the Army.
