NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana National Guard hosted an invitation-only 2024 Christmas at Jackson Barracks on Dec. 7, reviving a cherished tradition held for the first time in 20 years.
The festive evening showcased the historic antebellum homes and buildings of Jackson Barracks, all adorned in holiday splendor. Attendees were treated to guided tours that highlighted the rich history of the Barracks, followed by a stirring performance by “Louisiana’s Own” 156th Army Band.
“This year’s event was a proof of concept,” said Maj. Gen. Thomas Friloux, adjutant general of Louisiana. “We’re looking forward to opening to the public next year to showcase this beautiful, historical post as a fundraising event.”
This private event featured an array of distinguished guests, including members of the Governor’s cabinet, general officers from the LANG, Marine Forces Reserve, US Army Reserve, and several retired military personnel.
Guests had the unique opportunity to explore the historic Jackson Barracks, located just five miles from the French Quarter, while experiencing its holiday charm and historical significance.
Established in the 1830s under the administration of President Andrew Jackson, Jackson Barracks has served as a cornerstone military installation in New Orleans. Its storied history includes roles in conflicts ranging from the Mexican-American War to World War II. Today, the Barracks serves as the headquarters of the Louisiana National Guard, continuing its legacy of service to the State and the Nation.
Building on the success of this year’s event, LANG plans to open Jackson Barracks to the public for the 2025 Christmas at the Barracks celebration, expanding the opportunity for the community to share in this historic and festive tradition.
