La. National Guard welcomes home Soldiers from overseas

BATON ROUGE, La. –Soldiers of the Louisiana National Guard’s 2228th Military Police Company, 773rd Military Police Battalion, returned to family and friends during a welcome-home event in Baton Rouge, La., May 2.

The 2228th, based at Camp Beauregard in Pineville, La., returned from a 365-day deployment, with more than 130 Soldiers, from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where they conducted security operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

This unit has previously participated in the state response and recovery operations of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav, Ike and Isaac, as well as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010 and flood operations in 2011. They also deployed overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008 and in support of humanitarian relief efforts to Haiti in 2010 and 2011.
Lt. Col. Christopher Rollins of Sulphur, La., commands the unit with Sgt. Maj. John Herbert of Minden, La., serving as the senior enlisted advisor for the 2228th.
