Brigadier General Michael M. Greer
Brigadier General Michael M. Greer is currently the Assistant Adjutant General for the Louisiana National Guard. He serves as the principal military advisor to The Adjutant General of the State of Louisiana and is responsible for assisting in the deployment and coordination of programs, policies, and plans for the Louisiana Army and Air National Guard. Brigadier General Greer graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1992 and received a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Corp of Engineers, 528th Engineer Battalion (Combat Heavy), Louisiana Army National Guard. He has served in a variety of National Guard and Army Reserve leadership positions during his service.
Brigadier General Greer’s notable assignments include: Director of Civil Affairs and Civil-Military Operations, US Forces Korea; Deputy Commanding General, US Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (Airborne); Chief of Staff, 80th Training Command; Brigade Commander, 6th Brigade, 102d Division; Deputy Commanding Officer, 321st Civil Affairs Brigade; Battalion Commander, 413th Civil Affairs Battalion; and Battalion Commander, 15th Psychological Operations Battalion.
Brigadier General Greer served four overseas tours including combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. In 2004, Brigadier General Greer mobilized and deployed with the 450th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne). He led the Civil Affairs Team Alpha assigned to the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. In 2010, Brigadier General Greer mobilized and deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, with 17th Psychological Operations Battalion (Airborne) where he served as the Deputy Commanding Officer of Psychological Operations Task Force-17. In 2015, he mobilized to the Kingdom of Bahrain as the Psychological Operations Officer at U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT) and in 2022, Brigadier General Greer served as Director of Civil Affairs and Civil-Military Operations, US Forces Korea, Republic of Korea.
Brigadier General Greer’s civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Louisiana Tech University and Master of Science degrees in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College and the Army War College.
Brigadier General Greer’s awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Army Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corp Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3rd award), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (4th Award), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Service and Expeditionary Medals, Korea Defense Service Medal, Parachutist Badge, Italian Parachutist Badge and the Combat Action Badge.
He is a retired Federal Agent and north Louisiana native, currently residing in New Orleans, with his wife, Meredith. They have three sons currently serving in the US Army.
