HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 35

COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Louisiana National Guard on its service in 2020

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

To commend the Louisiana National Guard for its hard work, commitment, selfless dedication, and lifesaving efforts throughout 2020.

WHEREAS, during this tumultuous year, the Louisiana National Guard has performed exemplary work and displayed tremendous dedication through its efforts to protect the lives and welfare of Louisianians; and

WHEREAS, the tireless professionalism of our soldiers and airmen in supporting the state’s initial response to the COVID-19 crisis, combating the threats of criminals and nefarious actors to our cyber domain, and responding to the devastation of Hurricanes Laura and Delta demonstrate the immeasurable value of the men and women of the Louisiana National Guard; and

WHEREAS, after Hurricane Laura, the Louisiana National Guard distributed more than five million meals-ready-to-eat, over seven million liters of water, more than one million bags of ice, and nearly two hundred thousand tarps to victims of the storm; and

WHEREAS, in response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Guard has administered nearly two hundred fifty thousand tests, packed nearly sixteen million pounds of food at food banks, and delivered over fifty-four million units of personal protective equipment; and

WHEREAS, the Louisiana National Guard has supported missions involving transportation, communications, public works and engineering, traffic control, and generators and power supply; it has cleared eighteen hundred miles of roadway of hurricane debris; and

WHEREAS, the Louisiana National Guard stands ready to protect and assist the people of the great state of Louisiana and the United States of America; the combined efforts and distinct contributions made by our National Guard are reflective of the character and quality of our state’s soldiers, airmen, and officers; and

WHEREAS, for their unwavering commitment to the people of the Louisiana, the Louisiana National Guard has earned their deepest gratitude.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana National Guard for its hard work, commitment, selfless dedication, and lifesaving efforts throughout 2020; does hereby express tremendous gratitude to the members of the guard for their amazing recovery efforts during Hurricanes Laura and Delta and the COVID-19 pandemic; and does hereby extend sincere hopes and wishes that the Louisiana National Guardsmen remain safe and in good health as they continue to serve the great state of Louisiana.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Louisiana National Guard.
