BELLE CHASSE, La. – Approximately 300 Airmen from the 159th Fighter Wing, Louisiana Air National Guard, deployed to Kadena Air Base, Japan, in support of a Theater Security Package, Oct. 23.

The deployment supports U.S. Air Force efforts to maintain a forward presence in the Indo-Pacific, strengthen regional deterrence and reassure allies and partners. It also provides 159th Fighter Wing Airmen opportunities to train alongside U.S., allied and host-nation forces to improve interoperability and readiness.

Col. Christopher Ridlon, commander of the 159th Fighter Wing, addressed deploying Airmen prior to departure, thanking them and their families for their service and continued commitment to the mission.

“This is a big deal,” said Ridlon, emphasizing the importance of the mission and the wing’s role in supporting operations in the Indo-Pacific. He told the Airmen they were the right team for the mission and assured them the wing would provide the training and resources needed for success.

“I can’t thank you enough,” said Ridlon, recognizing the sacrifices made by both the Airmen and their families.

Prior to departure, Airmen completed Ready Airman Training and required pre-deployment briefings. Members also completed medical screenings and received required immunizations in preparation for the mission.

The deployment demonstrates the 159th Fighter Wing’s ability to rapidly mobilize and provide combat-ready airpower in support of U.S. and allied security objectives in the Indo-Pacific.
