Army Guard aviation drops super-sand bags to stop flooding

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Army National Guard UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters continue to drop 4,000-pound sandbags, Sept. 6, to prevent flooding from a levee breach in the Braithwaite area of Plaquemines Parish, La.

To date, LANG air assets have flown more than 494.9 flight hours, moved more than 300 personnel, and transported more than 1 million pounds of cargo to include 223 four-thousand pound sandbags, 89 bales of hay and one five-thousand pound generator.

In addition Guard pilots have flown more than 1,220 sorties supporting Search and Rescue operations, commodities distribution and command and control.
