NEW ORLEANS – In response to the tragic attack on Bourbon Street on New Year’s Day, the Louisiana National Guard was activated to support recovery efforts and bolster security in the area.
Governor Jeff Landry mobilized approximately 100 Guardsmen from the 61st Troop Command and the 139th Regional Support Group. These personnel worked alongside local law enforcement and emergency services to protect residents and visitors.
Military Police conducted security support operations with the Louisiana State Police in the French Quarter from Jan. 1–3, 2025, to protect key assets and ensure the health and public safety of Louisiana’s citizens in response to the act of terrorism. Within six hours of notification, military police personnel deployed to New Orleans working hand in hand with the Louisiana State Police to safeguard Bourbon Street and its surrounding areas.
The Louisiana National Guard remains committed to partnering with local agencies to restore a sense of security and normalcy for the State. Their quick and effective response ensured professional collaboration with the New Orleans Police Department and Louisiana State Police.
“Our Soldiers responded quickly and effectively,” said Col. Travis Douget, 139th Regional Support Group rear detachment commander. “They acted professionally and worked seamlessly with NOPD and LSP.”
As operations continue, state officials urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities.
